Directions to the Echo Lake launch

Rhode Island DEM directs visitors west on Route 44 to Jackson School House Road, then north. The launch is approximately one-half mile along the road on the right. The state directory does not publish a numbered street address, so use Jackson School House Road, Pascoag, RI 02859 for general navigation and follow the official approach and posted signs for the final turn.

Parking is listed as available, but the official record does not give a space count or trailer-layout diagram. Prepare straps, plugs, lines and fishing gear before entering the launch lane, keep the turnaround open and park only in signed areas. Never use neighboring driveways, lawns or private waterfront property for staging.

What the accessibility designation confirms

The statewide directory marks this launch as accessible. That makes Pascoag Reservoir a stronger trip-planning option than ramps for which the state publishes no accessibility information. The directory does not, however, provide measurements for ramp slope, dock height, transfer space, surface condition or the number and placement of accessible parking spaces.

Visitors who need a particular route, transfer setup or current surface condition should contact Rhode Island DEM before traveling. On-site signs and conditions take priority over the online directory.

How the seasonal 10-hp rule works

Rhode Island DEM lists a 10-horsepower limit from the Saturday before Memorial Day until the day after Labor Day unless Rhode Island Fish and Wildlife grants a special permit. In 2026, that ordinary seasonal restriction covers the busy summer period and remains in effect on August 26.

Outside that published seasonal window, boaters still must follow statewide boating law, posted notices and any emergency restriction. Do not assume a larger motor is allowed during the restricted period because it is raised, disconnected or operated slowly. Contact Fish and Wildlife before making a trip if your boat depends on an exception.

Wear a properly fitted life jacket and carry required safety equipment.
Inspect the ramp edge and water depth before backing down.
Keep speed and wake low around the launch, paddlers and shoreline.
Stage equipment away from the ramp so other visitors can launch.
Watch for changing water levels, shallow areas and submerged objects.

Fishing at Pascoag Reservoir

The official access sources reviewed for this guide do not provide a reliable current reservoir-specific game-fish list, so this page does not promise particular species or catches. Rhode Island requires a recreational freshwater fishing license for most anglers age 15 and older. Review the current seasons, size limits, possession limits and any emergency rules before fishing.

The public ramp provides boat access; it does not make the entire shoreline public. Shore anglers should stay within clearly signed public areas and avoid private docks, lawns and roadsides. Keep casting clear of launch traffic, retrieve discarded line and pack out bait containers and other waste.

Water levels and seasonal drawdowns

Rhode Island DEM identifies Pascoag Reservoir Upper Dam as state dam ID 016 and lists Echo Lake as its alternate name. The Pascoag Reservoir Dam Management District manages reservoir drawdowns, so shoreline position and usable launch depth can change through the year—especially during the traditional lower-water period.

The launch directory does not publish a live ramp-depth gauge. Check current local and state notices before towing a boat, visually inspect the ramp on arrival and never force a trailer beyond the maintained surface.

Do not confuse the ramp with the former campground property

Rhode Island DEM also owns a separate 235-acre former campground property on the west side of Echo Lake. In its November 4, 2022 project notice, DEM said only passive use would be allowed there while the agency developed a master plan and removed old docks. That property and its former ramp are not the public Jackson School House Road launch described in this guide.

Use the current statewide launch-directory record for boating access. Do not enter closed former-campground infrastructure, use removed docks or assume every state-owned shoreline parcel permits launching.

Facilities and trip planning

The official directory confirms parking, state operation and an accessibility designation, but it does not list restrooms, potable water, lighting, trash service, a courtesy dock, a launch fee or overnight parking. Plan for a self-contained day trip, bring drinking water and pack out everything you bring.

Check the Rhode Island cyanobacteria page immediately before visiting because algae conditions can change quickly. Avoid water that resembles green paint or pea soup, contains floating mats or has a suspicious odor. Keep children and pets away from a visible bloom, and never drink untreated reservoir water.

Clean plants and mud from boats, trailers, anchors, paddles and fishing gear before leaving. Drain water where permitted and allow equipment to dry before entering another lake.
