Lake St. Clair Metropark offers two different starting points for a shore-fishing trip: the open-lake shoreline at Huron Point and the accessible fishing pier beside Black Creek. Choose your access before unloading the rods, and check construction notices before driving to Harrison Township. The North Marina closure makes that last step especially useful.

Huron Point or Black Creek: where should you start?

The official park directory identifies Huron Point as a shoreline-fishing area. Its separate accessible pier is on Black Creek near the North Marsh Boat Launch Area. These are different destinations within the same park; a general park pin does not take you directly to either fishing spot.

Use the official facility map to compare the route to Huron Point with the northern launch and creek area. It marks parking, fishing locations, restrooms and paths. Save a copy before leaving home, then follow current signs rather than assuming every mapped route is available during construction.

For Huron Point: plan for a walk with your gear. Pack only what you can comfortably carry back, leave room for other path users and decide on a turnaround time. Look at the wind before choosing a place to settle; an exposed shore can be an uncomfortable choice for a long stationary session.

For the Black Creek pier: the directory describes paved approaches, accessible van parking, seating and low railings. Call the office to confirm the current route and portable-toilet availability if those features are essential to your visit. An accessibility listing describes the facility design; it cannot guarantee today’s unobstructed access.

Check the North Marina construction notice

As checked October 26, 2026, the Metroparks conditions page lists the North Marina closed for construction and the South Marina open. This notice does not separately confirm whether the nearby Black Creek fishing pier, its approach or every boat ramp is usable. Ask about the exact facility you want rather than treating a marina notice as a whole-park status report.

The same page lists the beach, pool and splash pad closed for the season, while the hike-bike trails and Meadow Loop are listed open. Recheck before your trip. If fishing access is affected, switch to a permitted walk or another destination instead of entering a fenced work area.

Fishing restrictions, licenses and keeping fish

The park prohibits shoreline fishing along the beach and at the marinas from April through October. Do not interpret a closed swimming beach as permission to fish there. Posted restrictions and construction barriers still apply. The directory names bass, walleye, pike and perch among the fishing possibilities; that is not a prediction of what will bite on a particular visit.

Review the current Michigan fishing regulations for your water and target species before choosing tackle or keeping fish. Michigan generally requires a fishing license from age 17. Check the digital rules for updates, and use the MDHHS Eat Safe Fish Guides separately when planning to eat your catch. A legal harvest limit and a consumption recommendation answer different questions.

Parking, passes and a simple arrival plan

Official park address: 31300 Metro Parkway, Harrison Township, MI 48045. Park office: 586-463-4581. Vehicle admission requires a Metroparks pass. Check current hours and pass options through the park directory before setting your departure time.

Before unloading, confirm the fishing area, the return route and the nearest available restroom. Keep hooks covered while walking, leave room behind you before casting and keep tackle out of the shared path. Bring drinking water, layers and a bag for discarded line. Stay back from wet edges and leave if waves or footing make the spot uncomfortable.

If bringing a boat as well, verify launch access and boat-pass requirements independently. A shoreline-fishing plan does not establish that a ramp, dock or rental service is operating. Give the office the facility name from the map when asking about construction.
