For fishing on Swan Falls Reservoir, use the Idaho Power boat launch upstream of Swan Falls Dam. The dam park also has fishing docks, and Idaho Power operates a separate river access downstream. Choosing the right listing before leaving Kuna saves a detour with a trailer.

Use the upstream launch for reservoir water

Take Swan Falls Road south from Kuna toward the dam. Use the directions link on the Swan Falls Reservoir Boat Launch page for the final approach, and follow signs to the reservoir-side access and designated parking. The operator lists free access, a boat ramp, a vault toilet and designated first-come camping without water or electric hookups. Check the ramp and waterline before backing in, and keep the turnaround clear while rigging.

Where to fish without a boat

The separate Swan Falls Park lists fishing docks and free day use. Idaho Power currently reports that pedestrian access across the dam is closed for spillway work. Plan around the open public shore and follow signs around operating areas. The downstream river access serves water below the dam. If you need an accessible route or a working restroom, confirm current conditions with Idaho Power before you leave.

Match your gear and rules to the water

Idaho Fish and Game identifies Swan Falls Reservoir as a warmwater fishery with bass, catfish and perch. Start with the reservoir’s Fishing Planner record and check the current Idaho fishing rules for the species and stretch you intend to fish. If you switch to the downstream access, check that river reach separately. Bring a properly fitted life jacket, allow for canyon wind and current, and stay clear of dam operating areas and posted boundaries.

Compare another nearby shore option

If the ramp or canyon wind changes your plan, consider Blacks Creek Reservoir’s west-end shore access as a separate outing. Its water levels fluctuate, so check that trip on its own merits.
