Mammoth Park combines a small fishing lake with a manageable walking outing near Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. Start with the lakefront access and choose whether the day is about fishing, a walk, or carrying in a canoe or kayak. In fall, check lakefront closures before making any of those plans.

Check fall lakefront access first
The county park page warns that the lakefront closes periodically in fall for waterfowl hunting. Contact Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation at 724-830-3950 and check current notices before traveling. Follow on-site closure signs even if the rest of the park is open.
Make that check before loading fishing gear or arranging a group meeting at the water. If access is unavailable, choose another destination and check its conditions independently. An old event notice, a stocking listing or a map pin cannot establish that the lakefront is open on your visit date.
Fishing decks and a short lake walk
The county describes a 24-acre stocked lake with a roughly one-mile route around it. Its park brochure and map identify two accessible fishing decks. Use that map to match your parking, fishing access and return route before unloading.
If an accessible approach is essential, ask staff about present surfaces and temporary obstructions. At a deck, keep bags and rod cases clear of the approach, leave room for other visitors and check behind you before casting. Follow current Pennsylvania fishing rules and license requirements; stocking does not guarantee a catch.
For a mixed group, agree on a meeting point and time before walkers leave the anglers. Let the slowest walker set the pace, and allow time for breaks rather than treating one mile as a guaranteed finish time. A shorter out-and-back can be a better fit if anyone wants to stop early.
Canoes and kayaks: carry-in access with specific limits
The county’s Mammoth Lake canoe and kayak rules allow recreational paddling May 1–October 31, 7:00 a.m. to dusk. Only canoes and kayaks up to 16 feet are permitted, with no motors of any kind. Boats must be carried from parking to the designated launch; vehicle access to the launch is unavailable.
Launch and remove your craft at that designated site, and do not beach elsewhere along the shoreline. The county rules require proper PFBC registration and compliance with applicable state rules. Confirm your craft and paperwork meet the requirements before arriving; contact the county if you need clarification.
Keep the carry in mind when choosing equipment. Pack gear so it can be moved securely in manageable loads, put on your life jacket before launching and leave enough time and energy for carrying everything back to the car.
Directions and hours
Use the county’s GPS address: 171 County Park Road, Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666. General park hours are listed as 9:00 a.m. to dusk; the separate paddling rules specify their own hours. Confirm the correct access arrangement before planning an early arrival.
Save the park map before leaving home, check the weather and allow time to finish before dusk. Keep fishing line contained and use the park’s collection containers or take tangled line home.
Nearby alternatives
Compare Twin Lakes Park fishing and lake walks if shore access is your priority; its private-boat policy differs from Mammoth’s. For an electric-powered boat, see the Keystone Lake launch and fishing guide.
