Bush Recreation Area is the Loyalhanna Lake destination to check when planning a boat-fishing or paddling trip near New Alexandria, Pennsylvania. Start by confirming launch access, then save the route to the recreation area. Lake conditions can change the plan before you ever back a trailer down the ramp.

Navigate to Bush Recreation Area

The official Recreation.gov listing gives the recreation-area destination as 200 Boat Dock Road, New Alexandria, PA 15670. Its directions approach via PA 981 and Bush Road, passing Mannitto Golf Course before turning into the recreation area. The listed contact address at 440 Loyalhanna Dam Road is a different destination; use the recreation-area directions for this outing.

Save the destination before departure and check it against your chosen map. If you are towing, allow time to find the correct entrance and organize gear before joining the launch queue. Keep the ramp lane clear while removing straps, loading tackle and preparing the boat.

Check high-water closures before towing

Recreation.gov explicitly warns that high water can close both the campground and boat launch. Call the Loyalhanna Lake ranger station at 724-639-9013 for access questions, and review the official listing’s notices before traveling. A mapped access point establishes where the area is; it does not confirm that the ramp is usable today.

Ask about the launch, lake level and any temporary restrictions that matter to your boat. A short call is especially useful after heavy rain or before a long tow. Have a shore-based alternative ready so a change in conditions does not force you to improvise at the water’s edge.

Motorboats, kayaks and fishing plans

The official listing describes unlimited-horsepower boating as well as kayaking and canoeing. That makes Loyalhanna a different option from nearby electric-only lakes. Follow posted operating restrictions, give smaller craft space and choose a route suited to the weather and your vessel.

The Loyalhanna Lake recreation listing also identifies bass and channel catfish fishing, shore-fishing opportunities and kayak rentals at Bush. Confirm rental operation separately if you plan to arrive without a boat. Check current Pennsylvania fishing regulations and license requirements for the species and date of your trip.

For a first visit, keep the plan simple: launch, assess conditions, fish or paddle a manageable area and return with a comfortable fuel, battery or energy reserve. Carry drinking water and secure loose gear before leaving shore. Put on a properly fitted life jacket and follow the site’s posted wear requirements.

Fees, parking and what to confirm

The PFBC public-access inventory identifies Bush as a USACE access area with parking and a fee indicator. Confirm the current day-use charge and payment method with the project before arriving. Inventory fields are planning aids; they do not establish present dock installation, parking availability or ramp condition.

At the site, read the signs before unloading and keep trailer spaces available for towing vehicles. If part of your group will fish from shore, agree on an approved meeting point and return time before the boat leaves.

Compare nearby lake access

For electric-only boating, compare the Keystone Lake fishing and launch guide or the Donegal Lake access guide. Each has a different access arrangement, so choose around your boat and the day’s conditions.
