Lake Durant Boat Launch: 10 Trailer Spaces and Fall Access

The NYSDEC Lake Durant launch gives small boats a hard-surface route onto a 289-acre Central Adirondack lake east of Blue Mountain Lake. The Hamilton County directory lists parking for 10 cars and trailers, recommends small boats, marks the launch as not accessible, and says access remains available until first snowfall.

Where to launch

The launch is inside Lake Durant Campground and Day Use Area at 8301 State Route 28 & 30, Blue Mountain Lake, NY 12812. NYSDEC’s county-directory coordinates are 43.839857, -74.384216. The waterbody page places the campground about three miles east of the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake.

Ramp: hard-surface launch. NYSDEC defines this type as suitable for float-off and float-on launching for most trailered boats.
Parking: 10 cars and trailers.
Boat guidance: the directory specifically recommends small boats.
Accessibility: the launch itself is listed as not accessible. A separate accessible fishing pier is listed at the campground.
Season: access is listed until first snowfall; check conditions before towing late in fall.
Fee: a day-use fee applies in season. NYSDEC does not publish a separate off-season launch fee in the directory.

Campground dates and shoulder-season planning

The posted 2026 campground season ran from May 15 through September 7. That operating window is different from the launch directory’s “until first snowfall” access note. After the campground closes, do not assume staff, restrooms, potable water, fee collection, camping, or other seasonal services are available. Confirm the access road and launch status with NYSDEC before making a late-season trip.

NYSDEC also posted a 2026 notice that bridge construction on Routes 30 and 28 could delay travel to the campground. That notice was written for the camping season, but checking the current route remains sensible before towing through the area.

Fishing Lake Durant

NYSDEC describes Lake Durant as a warmwater fishery with largemouth bass and stocked tiger muskellunge as headline species. The agency also lists brown bullhead, yellow perch, rock bass and pumpkinseed. Ice fishing is permitted, and special fishing regulations apply. Check the current New York freshwater regulations before fishing; species listings are not a substitute for season, size and possession rules.

The state waterbody record says much of the lake provides bass habitat, with shallow, weedy and stumpy areas worth considering. For tiger muskellunge, NYSDEC points anglers toward weedlines. Treat those notes as habitat guidance, not a catch guarantee, and give other boats room around the compact launch.

Paddling, facilities and safety

The campground page highlights canoeing, boating, fishing, hiking and bicycling around the east shore. Blue Ridge Wilderness also identifies the campground launch as a paddling access for Lake Durant and Rock Pond. A separate hand launch on the Cascade Pond access road serves a different carry-in route and should not be confused with this trailer ramp.

Wear a properly fitted life jacket, check wind and weather, and inspect the ramp before backing down. Early-autumn water can be cold even on a mild day. Because the official directory recommends small boats and lists the site as not accessible, match the craft and assistance plan to the conditions actually present.
