Where to launch at Lake Harris

The official NYSDEC Essex County boat-launch directory places the campground access at 43.977878, -74.133895. It classifies the site as an unimproved trailer launch with parking for 15 cars and trailers. In DEC terminology, that means the approach reaches the water’s edge but does not promise float-off or float-on capability for most trailered boats. Shallow conditions are typical of this launch class.

The Lake Harris Campground record similarly calls it a small, informal launch. Inspect the edge, depth, traction and turning room before backing down. Prepare equipment away from the water and keep the limited launch area clear.

A larger launch is across the lake

NYSDEC says a larger, town-owned launch is available across Lake Harris. That can be the better choice for a heavier boat or when the campground launch does not suit current water conditions. The campground page does not publish that alternative’s exact parking count, ramp grade, fee or accessibility features, so verify the municipal access before relying on it as a backup.

Fees and seasonal timing

The campground’s 2026 operating dates are May 15 through October 12. Camping costs $18 per night, plus a $5-per-night surcharge for out-of-state residents. The county launch directory also notes a day-use fee in season, but it does not publish the amount on the launch table.

The launch is listed open year-round. That does not mean the campground’s showers, restrooms, rentals or staffed services remain available after October 12, or that snow and ice are cleared for launching.
