John D. MacArthur Beach State Park protects an undeveloped barrier-island shoreline, subtropical hammock and mangrove estuary in North Palm Beach. Visitors can combine beach time with short nature trails, paddling and interpretive exhibits.
Hours, Admission and Current Notices
The park is at 10900 Jack Nicklaus Drive and is open daily from 8 a.m. until sundown. Florida State Parks currently lists admission at $5 per vehicle for two to eight people. The Nature Center is generally open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As of August 22, 2026, restroom facilities in the Nature Center area are unavailable, with portable toilets provided. The North Beach restroom has also been listed as closed until further notice since March 17, 2025. Check the park page before depending on a specific facility.
Beach and Water Activities
Swimming, snorkeling and surfing are popular along the Atlantic beach, while anglers may fish from non-swimming beach areas or in the lagoon by wading or kayak. Snorkelers and divers must follow Florida diver-down flag requirements. Check surf, weather and water conditions before entering.
Trails and Paddling
The Satinleaf Trail and Dune Trail introduce the park’s tropical hammock and coastal plant communities. Kayaks and paddleboards can explore the estuary and Lake Worth Lagoon; rentals stop when winds reach the operator’s safety threshold, so conditions matter even on otherwise clear days.
- Bring water, sun protection and footwear for the long walk between parking and beach.
- Keep clear of marked sea-turtle nests and protected dunes.
- Use only designated fishing areas and verify license requirements.
- Confirm rentals, programs and facilities before making them essential to the trip.
