Bahia Honda State Park at Mile Marker 37 on Big Pine Key is known for clear Florida Keys water, sandy shoreline and views of the historic Bahia Honda bridge. Its beaches, marina and campgrounds make it a broad destination rather than a single-activity stop.
Current Access and Fees
The park is at 36850 Overseas Highway and is open from 8 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year. Florida State Parks currently lists admission at $8 per vehicle for two to eight people, plus the Monroe County surcharge. Bahia Honda can temporarily close when day-use areas reach capacity, so arriving early is especially important on weekends and holidays.
Beaches, Water and Boating
Visitors come for swimming, snorkeling, paddling and shoreline wildlife viewing. Shade is limited, and water conditions can change quickly. The marina has limited trailer parking; when it fills, additional boat launching is unavailable. The park recommends arranging trailer parking in advance during busy periods.
Camping and Current Closures
As of August 22, 2026, Sandspur Beach and the Sandspur campsites remain closed for hurricane-recovery work. Buttonwood and Bayside provide the park’s other camping options. Bayside has eight non-electric sites, and vehicles must clear a 6-foot-8-inch overhead restriction to reach them. The park’s visitor center is also currently closed.

- Bring sun protection, drinking water and footwear for hot or rough surfaces.
- Check marine weather and posted swimming conditions.
- Do not disturb shorebirds, sea turtles, vegetation or historic bridge remains.
